Position Profile: Fiona Stanley Hospital (FSH) is a major tertiary hospital in the south metropolitan region of Perth and is the largest public cardiology service provider in Western Australia. FSH is home to the Advanced Heart Failure, Cardiac Transplantation Unit, and High-Risk Aortic Stenosis Service.

The interventional cardiology fellowship offered at FSH is an excellent training opportunity offered to candidates planning or currently undergoing interventional training.

FSH is a high-volume centre performing around 1000 coronary interventions per annum, of which 250 are primary PCI. The interventional service is led by 9 interventional cardiologists and supported by 1 interventional fellow. Fellows can expect an annual PCI volume of between 600-800 PCI with frequent exposure to left main PCI, bifurcation, use of calcium modification (rotational + orbital atherectomy, shockwave), intracoronary imaging (OCT and IVUS) and intracoronary physiology. Fellows would expect to gain considerable first operator experience during the fellowship. Fellows may also have an opportunity to participate in training and implantation of mechanical support devices (i.e Impella) and potentially some exposure to structural heart intervention (unless a Structural Fellow is appointed).

Fellows are expected to participate fully in the interventional program including the on-call STEMI service. Fellows will be required to present cases and attend the Cardiology/Cardiothoracic MDT and be actively involved in the weekly journal club and monthly state-based interventional educational program. The service has an active interventional research program, with fellows expected to be involved in both investigator- initiated and industry-sponsored clinical trials. Fellows will be strongly encouraged to undertake research programs during their fellowship and present at both local and international meetings.

Area Profile: Fiona Stanley Hospital (FSH) is a 783-bed tertiary hospital offering a range of health services including the State Rehabilitation Service, a comprehensive cancer centre, purpose-built mental health unit, maternity, paediatric and neonatal services, and the State Adult Burns Service. FSH also delivers specialised services such as heart and lung transplantations and hyperbaric medicine.
