Position: Cardiologist

Cardiology: Expression of interest to join private practice North Queensland (and locum positions available)

Looking for a great opportunity with lifestyle/work balance?

We are looking for expressions of interest to join our 3.2 person private cardiology practice in Townsville. The position could be full or part time. Applying cardiologists must have completed cardiology training, and hold appropriate AHPRA registration and RACP status, and must be able to practice without supervision in private practice in Queensland. Locum enquires are also welcome – timing and duration of positions flexible.

The position would suit many sub-specialty groups, with general and clinical cardiology an integral part of the position. Imaging, procedural work including interventional cardiology, electrophysiology and heart failure expertise would all find occupation here. We currently do not provide a specific cardio-oncology service, although we regularly see these patients, and there would be huge support for someone with experience in this growing field. There is a large private oncology/haematology practice located nearby.

Several private cardiologists in Townsville have recently retired or relocated, resulting in a great opportunity for someone looking for entry into private practice with hospital and procedural access. There may also be positions available through Queensland Health for sessions at the Townsville University Hospital (a large tertiary centre also associated with JCU Medical School).

We have a busy practice and provide service to Townsville and a wide surrounding area with frequent referrals from the outlying regions. We have good support from the local GP’s and other medical practitioners. We provide interventional cardiology, echo and pacing services in addition to in and outpatient consultant cardiology services. We also have an adult congenital HD practitioner seeing general and sub-specialty patients one day per week (currently on leave).

Our practice facilities include echo, exercise testing and Holter services, and outpatient consulting, and we have Mater private hospital access for CCU, cath lab, cardiac surgery and all inpatient care.

There is a good network of specialist care available, with open communication and shared patient care with many of our medical and surgical colleagues.

We are involved in JCU medical school student supervision, and

the intern training program, so there are plenty of teaching opportunities available.

The Mater Hospital has recently joined the Mater Health Statewide Network Meeting schedule for subspecialty groups to maintain clinical networking and benchmarking, and there are regular in-hospital morbidity and mortality meetings, as well as MDT meetings.

Townsville is a large regional hub with excellent schooling, JCU university, beaches, shopping, restaurants, and entertainment facilities.
